Fast interview to «Last Addiction» band (France)

1) with inner abyss you gave a clear sign that you are not «closed» to a specific style, although always on a melodic basis, it could be said that you have a «unique» style, which is why you do not leave anyone indifferent😀 … It was Was this the intention from the beginning? Or did it just come about that way?

Gael:😎

We are 5, and each of us listen to a lot of different music styles, so it was obvious that we would never become a death, trash, black, prog (etc..) band with a label sticked on us !

The main influence which is common to all is the modern «heavy metal», with bands such as A7X, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, then all the slight touches of post, metalcore, or «extreme» metal depend on the current mood, but also on fact we test them during reheasal, and the all band need to validate, otherwise, we change !

2) 2023 is being and will be a determining year for the band, with the release of a new work. Tell me a little about what this album will be 😊

Gael :😎

This new LP should be released during the automn, and for sure, it is more mature and probably more coherent. We decided also to change our collaboration for the miw/master, you can already ear it on the first 2 tracks (Dead soul sisters / Trauma trigger) which sound more modern, loud, also with the integration of samples.

As always, we will keep this approach to surprise the audience, but it will be definitively more agressive and pushy ! Be ready !

3) Trauma trigger is now available on all platforms and is receiving good reviews from specialized media and has delighted those who listen to it, it winks at «Post Traumatic Syndrome» tell me about this single and it’s themed 😊

Gael:😎

After talking with someone hitted by the Post Traumatic Stress disorder, which is a scary illness, I decided to work on the theme.

People who suffer are ususally former soldiers, and victims (or witness) of a violent situation. The tempo is quite slow, Dylan (lead singer) did a great job, you can feel the pain in the voice, and in addition, the sample integrated on the mix, specifically on the bridge with violin and cello, strenghten the stressy atmosphere. The video is a great support, it’s dark as hell

4) You have given great concerts, including the PLANE R FEST Festival in Lyon, where you have shared the bill with bands like Paradise Lost, Alcest and Blind Guardians, if you had to stay with one of the concerts you have given to date, as unforgettable as any would it be and why?

Gael:😎

Even if it was for the WOA Metal battle, our experience last summer at WACKEN is (for now) the greatest experience we had. We performed on the same stage than some bands that we love, such as Rotting Christ, Belphegor, Lost Society…We had 4 crazy days on the festival, great people, crossed and sometimes talked with artists (ex Pete Tagtren, Sakis Tolis..), we had the chance to spend time all over the place, it was like a dream for us, so we hope to come back in the future !

5) From the cold lands…to wacken 2022! How was this experience?

Gael:😎

You’re right, the band is young, created by friends (Dylan and myself know each other since school)  living in a small town near the french Alpes, and it is really active since 2018 (first EP), so as mentioned above, WACKEN was fanstastic, but it was also for the band, a kind of reward for all the work and dedication made the past years.

When we look at the past years, it’s funny to say that we used to play in very small venues, sometimes uggly, with very small audience, and then one day in august 2022, you walk the stairs to plug your amp on a stage at WACKEN ! This gives shivers !

6) Who writes the lyrics?

Gael:😎

Last Addiction is about friends and family ! so usually, I bring the main ideas around the global concept of the album, deliver the first version of tracks recorded home, then enter Yan, which is our first bass player, but also … my dad !  He provides few draft of the lyrics, we share them, modify them, Dylan makes sure that it fits to his voice, then here we go !

7) Particularly I am quite in love 💗 with the song «the skin on my Bones» can you tell me about this song and what is its inspiration?

Gael:😎

It was the first single of our first LP, and it represented exactly what L.A sounds like, catchy and melodic riffs, amazing clean voice, screams around, this is probably the roots of what you will ear on the next LP.

About the song, it is based on the real story of Vincent Lambert, a guy totaly paralized after an accident, could not talk or move, and breath with a machine. Then, after searching information about this story, it occurs that some people are locked inside their body, unable to move, eat, they are conscient but communicate only with eyes movement, some of them ask to die. We merged the 2 stories, and imagined what these people could feel or say

8) Any French band that is a big influence? And any Spanish band that you like?

Gael:😎

There are a lot of great French bands out there. I can’t really talk about influences because we’re in a different style of metal, but if I had to choose and give a few names, I’d say Destinity, Gojira (obviously) and Alcest. As far as Spanish bands are concerned, I was lucky enough to discover CRISIX last March at RockNeat (an excellent metal concert bar in Lyon), and it was insane! A great discovery!

9) In which Spanish festival would you like to play?

Gael:😎

The most famous here in France is RESURRECTION FEST, the line up this year is crazy , that would be an honor for us , then the Barcelona Rock fest, which is more «mainstream» but with a great line up also !

10) I’m curious 😅 and I would like to know what do you listen to when you are driving or what song do you have on your favorite playlists?

Gael:😎

You could be very surprised, because it is sometimes far away from the metal universe ! Each of us can be very eclectic in what we listen to. It can be anything from Jazz, to SynthWave, pop, 80s classics (but not the french one!), or even singers or bands from the 60s. The one thing we listen to the least is rap…

11) Many things happen at concerts.. do you have any funny anecdotes… or not so funny that happened during a live show  that you will never forget?

Gael:😎

The most memorable anecdote was at Wacken 2022! The moment we set foot on stage to install our gear, we all looked at each other and said «Wow, this is huge»! Between the stage and the number of people, we didn’t know where to look!
Since months, our singer was suffering from a herniated disc. To relieve the pain, he had to take morphine and opium (on doctor’s prescription of course!). Then he needed to calculate the exact time to take the drugs, to ensure they worked without getting him too high ! 5 minutes after the show, he was on another planet 😂
